Let’s Get Sauced!

Let’s get sauced with some sassy mayo-based concoctions. As always, I aim to keep it simple and healthy. The mayo is homemade folks.

I’m on a mission. Have you looked at the inside of your refrigerator door recently? If you are like most then it is loaded with all kinds of sauces and condiments that go into your recipes and on top of your salads and proteins. My mission is to find homemade and healthy ways to have deliciousness without all the sugar and preservatives. And, the good news is that I’ve been on this mission for a while now – constantly playing with healthy ingredient combinations to achieve delicious flavors to replace some of the ones we’ve become used to on the fridge door.

You may have tried my homemade mayo recipe in my post The One. The Only. The Egg  and it’s easy peasy.  It’s here in this post too, down below in skeleton form. I decided to bring you some ideas to use that deliciousness as the base of several sauces. Once you get the hang of a few versions, the sky is the limit and you won’t need recipes.

Think of your mayo as a blank canvas, and the world of healthy ingredients as your painter’s palate

By now, you’ve mastered the easy task of making your own homemade mayo (right?), why not play around with new ways to use it, ‘cuz it’s a health food now. Why not, I say!?!

Here are some new creamy and light sauces that will add flavor to any boring protein – or veggies. You’ve got several choices with ingredients suited for your gut and overall wellness!

Chili Lime Sauce

1 cup mayo (Use lime juice instead of lemon juice in the base mayo recipe)

1 tsp lime juice (on top of what went into the mayo base)

1 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp salt (or more to taste)

1 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp lime zest

Place 1 cup of mayo in a jar. Add in 1 tsp lime juice, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, and ½ tsp lime zest. Mix with a spoon until combined. Note: If you need to thin this sauce at all add a tsp of lime juice.
